Fishing in the River Dove, Peak District
The Izaak Walton Hotel is able to offer superb fly fishing on one of the finest trout streams in the world, made famous in the “Compleat Angler” by Izaak Walton & Charles Cotton, 1676.
The Hotel owns the fishing rights on the Staffordshire bank of the beautiful River Dove. The fishery extends from the imposing Ilam rock 3 miles downstream to the junction with the River Manifold on the right bank.
The more wooded Staffordshire bank provides perfect solitude away from the many visitors and tourists who enjoy walking the Derbyshire bank. The well-oxygenated limestone waters ensure a good food supply of a wide variety of invertebrate species which in turn ensures a healthy population of fish. Target species are the wild brown trout and grayling neither of which is easily deceived in the crystal clear water. The resulting fishing is both challenging and rewarding to wet fly, dry fly and nymph.
The Hotel operates an exclusive fly fishing syndicate but is able to offer a limited number of day tickets to guests and visiting anglers.
